UX is all the rage now - the demand for UX designers has grown significantly in the past decade as demand for such professionals has skyrocketed. UX is all about how users interact with a product or service, from initial discovery to ongoing engagement. UX is one of the first ways you can tell your users that you care about them.
UX applies in a number of digital products and services. For example, you can find UX in websites and web application, mobile apps, software applications, gaming, e-commerce platforms, financial services, to name a few.
Needless to say, a well-designed UX can greatly improve user satisfaction, loyalty, and ultimately, business success. A bad UX is just stressful for everyone involved. Let’s take a look at some of the benefits of a well-thought-out UX.
Happy Users: A good UX design can keep your users happy and satisfied with your product or service.
Better Conversion: A good UX makes users want to engage with your website or app, and this, in turn, means more opportunities for them to buy what you are selling.
Brand Reputation: Users will equate a well-thought-out UX to a well-thought-out brand. UX can help users build trust with a brand.
Competitive Advantage: UX is one way to stand out as a brand, and not many companies understand why they need to prioritize it.
Reduce Customer Support Roles: If your UX ensures that everything is properly spelled out, customers will experience fewer user errors or frustrations, and as such, will not need to communicate with your customer service team as much.
Usability: You can get a good sense of how usable your UX makes your website or app by answering the following: How well can users work with what you are offering? Is your website or app easily navigated? Does it use clear instructions? Is it intuitive?
Accessibility: Your UX should be accessible to all. It should follow the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines. It should be readable (ensure that you use colors that contrast properly), understandable, and should work across different browsers. Users should also be able to control the UI elements.
Functionality: Your UX has to work and work well. Do not create something that will leave users frustrated. It is not enough to have buttons, they have to do something.
Aesthetics: It is always a good addition when UX is pleasing to the eye even as it is functional. But aesthetics, in itself, is very important because it encourages users to stay on and use the product for much longer.
User Research: This is the stage where you empathise - you try to fill the shoes of your users. This can help you learn who your users are, how they behave, and what they like. Think of yourself as a tailor about to make a shirt for a customer - there are the basic things you need to know about who the product is for, like their measurements and color choice. Designing a great UX follows a similar process.
Architecture: You need to design what the UX is going to look and feel like. Here, you organize content and structure the user journey in a logical and intuitive way.
Prototyping: Create low-fidelity and high-fidelity prototypes to visualize the design and test interactions. Don't be shy about creating many variations to see which works best.
Design Implementation: Develop the final design, use visual elements and user interface components. This is the most exciting stage as your see your design finally come to life.
Testing and Iteration: Carry out usability testing to identify areas for improvement and iterate on the design. You will be surprised at the feedback you will get. You might end up smacking your head, wondering how you missed that.
UX can completely change your product and as a designer, it is extremely important you do not play with it. In order to keep users happy, and so doing drive business growth and build a strong brand reputation, UX must be a priority for your business. it Users now have access to so many platforms that they are bound to make mental comparisons as they use yours.
